D2L: Negative Grading feature in Quizzes


Overview:

Negative grading was designed to discourage students from guessing on quiz questions. A percentage of the point value for the question is deducted from the final grade when questions are answered incorrectly.

 

Directions:

  1. From the quizzes menu, select a quiz that you created and click on the title of the quiz.
  2. Select Evaluation & Feedback.
  3. Select Deduct points for incorrect answers.
  4. Enter the percentage of each question’s point value you wanted deducted when an incorrect answer choice is selected.
  5. Click Save and Close.

Note: While this feature is turned on, users will receive negative points for incorrect answers. For each question answered incorrectly, a percentage of the question's point value will be deducted from the learner's attempt grade. Part marks will not be granted.

Students are notified when negative grading is enabled on the quiz Summary page.
