Overview:
Zoom allows hosts to create breakout rooms for small group discussion within the session. If desired, the breakout rooms can be pre-assigned when scheduling the meeting and then opened during the Zoom meeting. This article explains the steps of creating pre-assigned breakout rooms.
- Once signed into your Zoom account, click Schedule a Meeting.

- Enter the required scheduling information for your Zoom Meeting.
- Next to Options, click Show.

- Check the box by Breakout Room pre-assign and then click + Create Rooms.

- Click the + beside Rooms to add the appropriate number of rooms. Then, you can hover over the room name in the second column for the pencil to appear. Click on the pencil icon and you can change the room name if desired.

- In each room, you can add participants in the Add Participants box. Enter the person’s name and then hit Enter.
Note: Radford account users will auto-populate as you type their name. If a person does not have a Radford account, you must enter their Zoom account email.

- To move a participant to another room or to remove them from a room, hover over their name and select the appropriate option.

- After participants have been added to the appropriate rooms, click Save. Then, click Save again.
- When the meeting has started, click on the Breakout icon to manage the rooms, and start the Breakout sessions.
