D2L: Video Notes


Overview:

Video Notes can be used to introduce yourself in Announcements, offer feedback on an Assignment, add to Discussions and so much more! This tool can be used by instructors and students with Insert Stuff, creating opportunities for video responses. Video Notes can be saved and reused anywhere Insert Stuff is located as well as in different courses.

 

How to Create and Add a Video Note

  1. While in the HTML Editor anywhere in D2L, click on the Insert Stuff icon.

NOTE: This article will be inserting a Video Note in an Assignment’s instructions.

 

  1. Select Add Video Note.

  1. Click New Recording.

  1. You have up to 30 minutes to record. When you are ready to stop, click Stop Recording.

  1. Click Next.

NOTE: Before clicking Next you can view your video by clicking on the triangle play button. If you click New Recording before clicking Next, the video you just recorded will be lost.

 

  1. Title your video and add a description (this is valuable information for you when looking for the correct Video Note, especially if you plan on reusing it later).

  1. Select the Audio Language and check the Automatically generate captions from audio. D2L will create captions for you as long as this box is checked.

  1. Click Next.

  1. Your media will need time to process. You can click Refresh Preview to see if it is done processing before adding it (optional as it will continue to process no matter what). Click Insert when you are ready.

  1. Finish typing up what you need to above, around or below the Video Note. When you are ready, click Post or Save and Close depending on the activity you are adding a Video Note to.

NOTE: Your video will eventually appear in place of the This media file is currently being processed message after some time. You can refresh the page before saving or posting.

 

 

Accessing the Media Library

  1. When you create a Video Note, it is saved in the Media Library. To access the Media Library, you can click on Insert Stuff in any HTML Editor and select Media Library.

  1. Type in your Video Note you want to see or press enter on the keyboard to view all of them.

  1. Select the video you want to insert and click Next.

  1. Check caption settings by clicking on the gear icon. If captions are Off, click on Captions and select the language captions will be shown in.

NOTE: The Captions setting will not appear if you did not select a language and check the box while creating the Video Note.

 

  1. When you are sure this is the Video Note you want, click Insert.
