D2L: Creating Assignments


Overview:

This article goes over how to create an assignment as well as the settings that are available to use and change.

 

  1. Click Assignments on the NavBar.

 

  1. Click on New Assignment.

  1. Type a name for your assignment in the Name field.

  1. The Grade Out of section shows the grade status of the assignment. It defaults to Ungraded but this can be changed by clicking on the Ungraded box and then clicking on In Grade Book to select one of three ways to set the grade status:
    1. Edit or Link to Existing – this will allow you to create a new grade item and link this assignment to it or link the assignment to an existing grade item in the grade book. You can determine the amount of points in the points box. 

 

    1. Not in Grade Book – this will allow you to have an assignment that is graded out of points but will not be linked to the grade book. You can determine the amount of points in the points box.

 

    1. Reset to Ungraded – this will allow you to have the assignment return to being ungraded where it will not be graded at all with no points associated.

  1. If there is a date you want the assignment to be due, click on the box under Due Date and select a date on the calendar.

  1. Provide instructions for the assignment as needed.

  1. You can attach a file or link to the assignment.

  1. On the right-hand side, you can click on the Availability Dates & Conditions panel for more options. In this panel you can set a start date, an end date, release conditions, and special access.

  1. Clicking on the Submission & Completion panel will allow you to choose the type of assignment this will be, the category, submission type, how many files can be submitted, what file extensions will be accepted, how many submissions are kept, and a place to put an email to receive notifications for when an assignment is submitted.

  1. Clicking on the Evaluation & Feedback panel will allow you to add a rubric, assign learning objectives, decide if annotation tools will be available, make this anonymous by hiding student names, and use Turnitin.

  1. At the bottom you can decide the visibility status by clicking on the eye icon.

  1. When you are done, click on Save and Close if the assignment is ready or click Save if it is still in draft form.
